Love It or Leave It

Thanks to the cultural division over the Vietnam War, “Love it or leave it” became a battle cry for the anti-hippie crowd in the sixties and seventies.  I was going through my purist libertarian years back then, confused about the difference between theory and reality, so I was kind of turned off by this slogan.  How dare those rednecks tell anyone that they have to love the United States or move elsewhere.

Time, however, has a way of ripening and maturing the minds of rational people, especially those with critical-thinking skills.  As a result, today, 50 years after Woodstock, I find myself agreeing with Donald Trump’s reprimand of the Four Donkeys of the Apocalypse, aka the “AOC Squad.”

Sure, Trump wasn’t technically correct when he used the words “go back” to the “totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” but he was absolutely right in what he meant — that the hateful little congresswomen should leave the country if they’re so unhappy here.  To point out that three of these donkeys were born in the United States is nothing more than a diversion from Trump’s main point.

Remember, Alexandria Moronio-Cortez herself once chastised those who are “more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.”  And Trump was absolutely, unequivocally morally right on this one.

The president subsequently improved his wording when he tweeted that “If somebody has a problem with our country, if someone doesn’t want to be in our country, they should leave.”  Unless you have bad intentions, why in the world would you want to live in a country you hate?  What halfway serious, intelligent person would disagree with such a viewpoint?

Even so, the problem liberty advocates have is not the AOC Squad.  Envious, hateful ignoramuses have always existed, and always will.  They should either be ignored or, if they become too violent or destructive, locked up.  The most important thing about imprisonment is that it sends a message to those with aspirations to commit aggression against people with whom they disagree.

That said, the real problem for conservatives is the excessive number of Republicans afflicted with that dreaded of all D.C. medical conditions, Romney’s Disease.  From John McCain to Jeb Bush … from Jeff Flake to Bob Corker … from Paul Ryan to Mitt Romney himself, it’s Republicans suffering from Romney’s Disease who make it possible for the hateful, violent Radical Left to have its way over and over again without suffering any consequences.

Mitt Romney would rather die than miss a chance to badmouth Trump.  He has no interest in his constituents, who voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump.  Like the uber-loathsome John McCain before him, his number-one focus is on his own ego.  It’s quite laughable that the media portrayed McCain as a maverick.  The idea that he voted against his own party because he was principled is a myth.  McCain voted against his own party because it got him attention and bolstered his ego.  Period.

Thanks to the anger, hatefulness, and insanity of virtually the entire Democratic Party, Trump is poised to win in a landslide in 2020 and Republicans are in a strong position to keep the Senate and recapture the House.  I can unequivocally guarantee that Democrats will do everything possible to assure such an outcome in the 16 months ahead.  Every Dirty Dem primary debate will be the equivalent of a two-hour ad for Trump and Republicans — with no cash outlay!

Unfortunately, Mitt Romney and his ilk will continue to do everything possible to make certain that Trump loses and, in the process, that Republicans lose one or both chambers of Congress.  It’s nauseating, and Utah Republicans who voted for Romney in 2018 are kicking themselves right now.  Unfortunately, Romney can’t be recalled, so he’s safe until 2024.

It’s obvious to any serious, half-awake person that Donald Trump is not a racist or a homophobe or an Islamophobe.  None of these accusations ever came up in the first 69 years of his very public life.

Trump’s real failing is that he’s too willing to give his enemies a chance to redeem themselves — like having Jeff Flake sit next to him at a White House meeting … or defending Nancy Pelosi by telling the world that she’s not a racist … or — Yikes! — meeting with Mitt Romney to discuss the possibility of his becoming Secretary of State.

Come on, POTUS, stop it — now!  It’s time to get tough and start exposing fake conservatives like Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Richard Burr, and Lisa Murkowski for what they are:  fake conservatives.

As to the Four Donkeys of the Apocalypse, let them talk … and talk … and talk — right along with the Dirty Dem reprobates on the debate stage.  Even Donald Trump doesn’t have enough money to buy all the free advertising these clowns are giving him.
