The British public are very fed up. Their lockdowns have been much more limiting than ours with very few opportunities for meeting up with friends and families or going to restaurants.

So when this professor, a leading epidemiologist who sits on the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviours, spoke up, the words fell on receptive ears.

Professor Mark Woolhouse, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh and an adviser to the government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), who is advising the government on infectious diseases has said the lockdown was a ‘monumental mistake on a global scale’, in an explosive interview with the Daily Express.

He went further. When asked about the herds of people flocking to beaches in the summer he said: “There were no outbreaks linked to crowded beaches. There has never been a COVID-19 outbreak linked to a beach ever anywhere in the world to the best of my knowledge.” So there you have it! We’re off to the beach – just as soon as the ice storm is over!
