Dems bolt for DC with case of Miller Lite – Texas Rangers in hot pursuit

Texas Democrats – currently being hailed as heroes by the Left for opposing the GOP election bills which would restrict vote-by-mail, eliminate drive-thru and 24-hour voting, and empower poll watchersare meeting with federal lawmakers while in D.C. to push for national voting rights legislation that could thwart the Texas restrictions bill, and Democratic state Sen. Royce West told the Washington Post the Texas Democrats are “buying time” by leaving the state while “hoping that something gets done at the national level.”

Texas House Votes 76-4 to Arrest Democrats Who Left for Washington, D.C. and Held up Voting in the State Legislature

Kamala Harris praised the “sacrifice” of Texas Democrats currently hiding in a $200/night hotel after they fled their state.

The House Democratic caucus paid for the two private jets that flew members to Washington, D.C., meals, lodging and other transportation with the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, as well as the campaign accounts of Reps. Chris Turner of Grand Prairie and Trey Martinez Fischer of San Antonio. There are 57 House Democrats in Washington — along with 12 paid staff — and costs are quickly mounting.

Texas state House members voted 76-4 to send law enforcement to find and return absent Democrats “under warrant of arrest, if necessary,” a day after dozens of Democratic House members fled the state in an effort to kill election legislation.

The lawmakers could face arrest whenever they return to Texas, with Gov. Greg Abbott saying Monday the Democrats “will be arrested” and “cabined inside the Texas Capitol until they get their job done” as soon as they return to the state… Abbott has vowed to continue to call special sessions of the state legislature until the legislation is passed, telling KVUE he “will continue to call a special session after special session after special session all the way up until election next year” and Democrats would have to stay out of Texas for “well over a year” to ultimately block the legislation.

Democrats in the Texas Legislature jumped on a plane Monday for Washington, and said they were ready to remain there for weeks in a second revolt against a GOP overhaul of election laws, forcing a dramatic new showdown over voting integrity in America. By walking out they deny Republicans a quorum, which will prevent the passage of their elections bill, (and the trans bill, the bail bill). They will have to leave the state for weeks. The last time they did this was in 2003.

The Texas Republican bills would outlaw 24-hour polling places, ban ballot drop boxes used to deposit mail ballots, and empower partisan poll watchers. Republicans say the measures are needed to ensure voter integrity following the controversy surrounding the 2020 elections.

Hours after they took off, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott told an Austin television station he would simply keep calling special sessions through next year if necessary, and raised the possibility of Democrats facing arrest upon returning home.

“As soon as they come back in the state of Texas, they will be arrested, they will be cabined inside the Texas Capitol until they get their job done,” Abbott said. The Horn News

As you can see their priorities are straight. Abandon their families, constituencies and state – but have the party beers on board! (Is Miller Lite a beer???)

Several Democratic state senators plan to travel to Washington in a show of solidarity with House counterparts who left the state Monday — but apparently not enough to break quorum and halt Senate action on a GOP voting bill Tuesday.
