Let’s just kill our sick and homeless

In a film from Ickonic Media, we hear the heartbreaking stories from people who lost loved ones to fatal doses of morphine and Midazolam.

Each year, tens of thousands of elderly and terminally ill patients are quietly euthanized in the UK’s National Health Service facilities. In hospitals, care homes and hospices, behind closed doors, their deaths are hastened in what appears to be a caring and humane way.

But how has this practice of euthanasia – illegal in the UK and carrying a life prison sentence – become so widespread and acceptable? And why are people who are nowhere near the end of their lives being given killer ‘cocktails’ of drugs that are used in many US states for executions? (Midazolam is used to render the inmate unconscious before other chemicals are administered.)

Jacqui Deevoy is a freelance journalist who has spent many years writing for major British newspapers. Around two years ago she began investigating how a banished euthanasia program had returned to British hospitals—coinciding with the onset of COVID-19. This program includes greatly increased use of the respiratory depressant drug midazolam. Jacqui joins us today to talk about her research and how it casts a different light on the periodic spikes in deaths experienced since April of 2020. Groups targeted included the over-60s, the disabled, and the mentally ill.
