Nationwide operations began today after deportation raids that were set to begin in at least one sanctuary city the day after President Trump’s inauguration were on hold after an effort to restore the element of surprise, multiple law enforcement sources told The New York Post.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Chicago were told to stand down and that the operations were called off for now, sources said.
The Post previously reported that ICE was planning a “big f–king operation” starting Tuesday in multiple sanctuary cities, including New York City.
“We’re not reconsidering any operations, there was a leak in Chicago so we’re looking at that leak and finding out how’s that affect officer safety concerns. Chicago’s not off the table, but we’re reconsidering when and how we do it,” said Border Czar Tom Homan.

Border Patrol agent shot and killed
A Vermont state senator has identified the U.S. Border Patrol agent who was shot in the neck and killed yesterday afternoon in Coventry.
Essex County Sen. Russ Ingalls said the agent who died was David Maland, who was assigned to the Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Swanton sector covers 295 miles of the northern border in Vermont and New Hampshire and eastern New York. Border Patrol officials say illegal border crossings in the sector in recent years have shattered previous records.
Sources say it was a German national on a “visa overstay” with an expired H1-B visa and the agent was conducting a traffic stop when he was shot. The shooter is also dead. A woman was injured in the altercation.
