Marc Andreessen, a giant name in tech, went to some meetings where he says the Biden administration said they would, “Take control of AI.” They told him that AI would be left to just a few big companies working in close cooperation with the government. They’d protect these companies from having too much competition and basically dictate how AI should work.
When Marc said, “But you can’t control AI knowledge; it’s everywhere,” they shot back with, “We did it with physics during the Cold War, we can do it with AI math, too.” They suggested they could classify the math behind AI to slow down or control its development if they wanted to.
Andreessen was worried that this could mean the government might try to limit who gets to play in the AI sandbox and how they play.
