The Dems’ latest middle-finger antic is Long John Fetterman’s sauntering through the halls of Congress in shorts and a hoodie. The man is an oversized garbage can. You can almost smell his body odor through the television set.
Nevertheless, being radical left and cognitively disabled automatically qualifies him as a folk hero to anarchist Democrats. In fact, to accommodate Fetterman’s slovenly ways, Chuck Schumer unilaterally changed the Senate’s dress code. Now, everyone in the Senate can not only be a slob, but a corrupt slob at that.
This comes after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer chose to stop enforcing the unwritten requirement, and Democratic Sen. John Fetterman’s casual dress became a flashpoint in the Capitol.
UPDATE: Yesterday, 10/27/23, the US Senate passed a resolution formalizing business attire as the proper dress code for the floor of the chamber by unanimous consent.
A purist libertarian might argue that a person should be free to dress however he wants when he goes to work, whether his job be a short-order cook or a U.S. senator. In fact, the same kind of argument could be made for just about anything, including open borders. After all, if a person is truly free, shouldn’t he be allowed to live wherever he chooses without having to get permission from anyone?
What the overarching argument gets down to is total freedom versus societal order. To a purist libertarian, the foundational principle of human existence is the belief that every individual owns his own life and therefore possesses an inherent right to do whatever he pleases with that life so long as he does not forcibly interfere with the rights of others.
In theory, it’s hard to argue with this foundational principle, but life is not theory. Life is reality, and in real life millions of angry, malevolent people saturate the landscape. These are folks who do not agree with the underlying premise of libertarianism, because they want to be free to curb the freedom of others.
Thus, the only way to maintain a civilized society is to have rules and laws in place that are backed up with a strong system of enforcement. Until recently, Western democracies were pretty good at this task, but democracy’s biggest flaw is that it tends to destroy itself through an excess of democracy. As the Founding Fathers feared might happen, this excess has caused our democracy to come apart at the seams at an accelerating pace, with no area of daily life off limits. As a result, the world you and I grew up in no longer exists.
Now commonplace are such atrocities as smash-and-grab robberies, murder and rape on subways, parents being labeled terrorists for expressing their desire to have a say in their children’s education, vicious brawls at sporting events, the weaponization of the justice department to crush political opponents, violent criminals being let out of jail without bond … the list goes on and on and is expanding almost daily.
The perpetrators of the criminal chaos we are now experiencing are emboldened because they know there will be no consequences to their actions. As a result, America has become a free-for-all society where nothing is sacrosanct. The message from the halls of power is clear: If it helps sooth your anger, go for it, no matter how offensive, how immoral, or how criminal your actions may be.
In a world that has been turned on its head, yesterday’s virtues are today’s sins. It’s a sin to believe in God. It’s a sin to believe in the nuclear family. It’s a sin to believe there are only two sexes. It’s a sin to want to protect your country from foreign invasion. It’s a sin to claim sole dominion over your own children.
Today, we’ve entered a new phase of the destruction of our civilization. Being able to do whatever they please is no longer enough for the anarchist barbarians. Their anger is so deep and so all-consuming that they not only demand their every wish be granted, they also feel compelled to give the middle finger to people with traditional values.
As noted, the Fetterman Caper is a middle finger; Hunter Biden hobnobbing at a state dinner for the Prime Minister of India is a middle finger; liars John Brennan and James Clapper being selected to serve on the DHS’s new “Homeland Intelligence Experts Group” is a middle finger; Alejandro Mayorkas insisting that “the border is secure” is a middle finger; climate-change hoaxers flying around on private jets is a middle finger; the president saying “transgender people shape our nation’s soul” is a middle finger.
And speaking of the president, pretending that Joe Biden is a serious head of state who is fully in charge of things is the biggest middle finger of all. The truth is that no one even knows who is actually running the country.
When the history of the early 21st century is written, the most significant thing about it will be the severing of government accountability to, and the subjugation of, ordinary citizens. This has been made possible by brain-dead voters who keep putting the same swamp creatures back in office.
Winston Churchill summed it up perfectly and succinctly when he said, “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” Like so many truths, it’s not popular to say, but the empirical evidence tells us that voting doesn’t work if your objective is to have a safe, orderly society when millions of people are committed to making it unsafe and disorderly.
As people in 1930s Germany found out the hard way, the consequences of an unsafe and disorderly society can be dire, because when the masses become desperate enough to preserve a civilized way of life, a dictatorship becomes a real possibility.
