A recall of Boar’s Head products has expanded to include a whopping seven million additional pounds of deli and poultry items in a multi-state outbreak of listeria infections following two deaths.

As of Tuesday, 34 people have gotten sick across 13 states in the outbreak — including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths. The fatalities were a patient in Illinois and another in New Jersey.
Calls for a federal investigation of Boar’s Head should start immediately. Listeria outbreaks of this magnitude are exceptional. This is suspicious.

Family Feud
A court battle is brewing between the two families that control the meat company Boar’s Head, which is said to bring in an estimated $1 billion per year.
The New York Daily News reported that the death of Barbara Brunckhorst, the daughter of Boar’s Head founder Frank Brunckhorst, in November set off a feud over the company’s fortune between the Brunckhorst and Bischoff families, who have shared ownership of the business since it started in 1905.
Boar’s Head Announcement
Boar’s Head has announced an immediate and voluntary recall of our Strassburger Brand Liverwurst because it had the potential to be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. At that time, we also made the decision to voluntarily recall nine additional products that were produced at our Jarratt, Virginia facility on the same production line and on the same day as the liverwurst product. This involved removing over 200,000 pounds of product from the market which was done quickly and effectively.
On Monday evening, July 29, 2024, we learned from the USDA that our Strassburger Brand Liverwurst has been linked to the national deli meat Listeria monocytogenes outbreak. Based on this new information, we took steps to ensure we are doing everything possible to protect public health.
Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to immediately and voluntarily expand our recall to include all items produced at the Jarratt facility. We have also decided to pause ready-to-eat operations at this facility until further notice. As a company that prioritizes safety and quality, we believe it is the right thing to do.
Consumers are advised to discard any recalled products listed below or return them to the store where purchased for a full refund.
