Last night’s Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, a bipartisan ritual between presidential candidates transformed from a typical evening of political camaraderie to a solo comedy act, with Donald Trump taking center stage.
The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, commonly known as the Al Smith Dinner, is a high-profile event where political leaders, including presidential candidates, come together for a roast. This event, held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, has a distinctly Catholic flavor as it honors Alfred E. Smith, the first Catholic to be nominated for President by a major political party. The dinner traditionally includes a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, reflecting its Catholic roots, and is a celebration where faith, political humor, and camaraderie are supposed to blend seamlessly. Kamala Harris is not a fan of Catholics because they do not – as a rule – support her views on abortion and contraception and gender issues. To be fair, they do agree with her on immigration.
Here’s how the evening unfolded, peppered with some of Trump’s sharpest one-liners:
The moment Trump stepped into the Waldorf-Astoria, the air thickened with anticipation. Known for his unfiltered humor, Trump didn’t disappoint.
"There’s a group called “White Dudes for Harris”… but I’m not worried about them at all, because their wives and their wives’ lovers are all voting for me."

Kamala Harris’s chickenshit decision to send a video message instead of attending in person became Trump’s comedic goldmine. “If you wanted Vice President Harris here, you should have told her the funds were going to bail out the looters and rioters in Minneapolis,” he quipped, setting the tone for a night of on point political jabs.
Kamala Cringe
Kamala showed up to the Al Smith dinner by lame-ass cringe video, didn't garner a single laugh, even with the help of a professional comedian. Kamala is like a fire extinguisher to any humorous situation. Absolutely miserable. pic.twitter.com/psjbxFWcQx

Trump spared no one, diving into territory that’s often left untouched at such events. “We have someone in the White House who can barely talk, barely put together two coherent sentences,” he remarked, a clear dig at both President Biden’s and Harris’s mental acuity.
Personal attacks were not off the table either, with Trump taking aim at Doug Emhoff, Harris’s husband, with, “He may refuse to release his medical records, but every day he makes it clear to the American people that he is not up to the job.” This, followed by a transgender-related quip, stirred the pot further, showing Trump’s complete disregard for woke acquiescence.
I’m DED 🤣🤣🤣

TRUMP: "Right now we have someone in the White House who can barely talk, barely put together two coherent sentences, who seems to have the mental faculties of a child…
But enough about Kamala Harris."

The dinner, traditionally a showcase for bipartisan humor, saw Trump criticize Harris’s absence with, “You got to go to the dinner; otherwise, bad things are going to happen to you,” humorously pointing skyward, suggesting divine consequences for skipping the event.
While the spirit of self-deprecation is expected at such dinners, Trump’s approach was more about showcasing his resilience than poking fun at himself. His attempt at self-deprecation quickly turned into another jab at his opponents.
The aftermath of Trump’s performance at the Al Smith Dinner was swift. Social media platforms and news channels are now flooded with reactions, some praising Trump for his humor’s audacity, while others lament the dinner’s shift from unity to division – brought on by Harris’ failure to come and match Trump’s humor.
My favorite was when he turned to Chuck Schumer and told him he still had a shot at being the first female president.
