Was this all a cunning ruse to smoke out Senate never-Trumpers?

Everyone knew former Congressman Matt Gaetz would take a lot of flak from Democrats, but in the end, several Republicans also announced they would vote against Donald Trump’s nominee for Attorney General.

So today, he withdrew himself from being Trump’s Attorney General pick, saying his confirmation was becoming a “distraction to the critical work” of the Trump transition.

Given that the president-elect’s response to him withdrawing from the AG nomination is so muted, we need to ask ourselves was this all a ruse to smoke out the anti-Trumpers?

With Marco Rubio going to State, there’s a spare Senate seat going in Florida which may be appointed at Governor Ron DeSantis’s pleasure. Let’s see whom he nominates.
