Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Democratic Congressman from Mississippi, has been notably involved with the investigation into the events of January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol as the former chair of the House Select Committee investigating the incident that left a citizen dead.
The committee’s findings have been criticized for possibly being influenced by political motives, aiming to portray the events in a way that supports certain political agendas. This includes the focus on former President Trump’s actions and the portrayal of the event’s severity and intent.
Nancy Pelosi, whose actions on the day in regard to Capitol security allowed the crowd to drift into the Capitol, may also be worried. She politicized the investigation by rejecting Republican appointees to the January 6 Committee, thereby shaping the narrative of the investigation to fit a particular political agenda, finally settling on Republican Trump-haters, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
Thompson said he’s take a pardon in an interview on CNN Newsroom with host Jim Acosta when asked about the Biden White House’s active discussions on shielding him and disgraced former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., from criminal prosecution under President-elect Donald Trump’s second term.
“If he offers it to me or other members of the committee, I think I would accept it, but it’s his choice,” Thompson told Acosta regarding Biden’s pardon.
Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chaired Jan. 6 committee, says he “would accept” a preemptive pardon if one was issued by President Biden: “It’s [the president’s] prerogative.
