Law enforcement descended quickly and with little warning on Emory University’s main quadrangle in Atlanta, using pepper balls and tear gas to disperse an encampment of pro-Palestinian activists holding a banner reading “Divest From Death.” Protesters at Emory are demanding that the school divest from “Israeli apartheid.” They were also calling for an end to Cop City, a planned police training center in the South River Forest near Atlanta.
Two Emory professors were arrested: Caroline Fohlin, an economics professor, (seen below in a very physical takedown by officers) and Noelle McAfee, the chair of the philosophy department. Fohlin had approacehed the officers out of concern for the students. She is seen below being forced to the ground and crying out, “I’m a professor!”.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations criticized the college and local police for using “excessive force” as it was revealed that at least 28 people were arrested on campus.
Emory's Caroline Fohlin is knocked down by the police while shouting: “I’m a professor!!” Hear the disbelief in her voice. She never expected to be treated like this by her own university for protesting Israel's slaughter.
