Hurricane after effects are grim and won’t get better. Look who is stepping up

Hurricane Helene has caused devastating damage across several states, with a death toll climbing well over 100, including 40 in Buncombe County, North Carolina alone. The storm’s impact has left millions without power and has necessitated extensive search and rescue efforts due to blocked roads and communications breakdowns.

There have been terrible reports of devastation, destruction and death. Bodies found in trees and cars. Whole towns washed away. Confused children looking for their parents.

The area is huge, remote and difficult to traverse. Unlike Katrina where so much damage was centered in one place, the difficulties of these far-flung disaster areas almost defy assistance. Tragic story after tragic story is emerging. When the dust settles it is likely that this was a very serious disaster.

Agricultural and logistical implications

What a dad!
