This is K2-18b, a potentially habitable planet covered with oceans and about 2.6 times the size of Earth. Sadly it’s a long ways off but it looks just like home!
K2-18b is an exoplanet orbiting the red dwarf star K2-18, located approximately 124 light-years from Earth in the constellation Leo.
This super-Earth, with a radius about twice that of Earth, resides in the habitable zone where liquid water could exist.
It’s particularly intriguing due to recent findings suggesting the presence of water vapor, methane, and possibly dimethyl sulfide in its atmosphere, hinting at potential life-supporting conditions. Its mass is roughly 8.6 times that of Earth, suggesting a high-pressure environment.
While not directly observed, these atmospheric components make K2-18b a prime candidate for further study in the search for extraterrestrial life.
