We’re fairly sure more people would tune in to watch Rachel Maddow choking back tears at the prospect of Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr purchasing MSNBC! (Yes, we know this is manipulated. image, it’s still funny.)
The MSNBC takeover notion came about when Donald Trump Jr. floated the idea humorously on X, suggesting that Elon Musk might consider buying MSNBC, calling it the “funniest idea ever.” Musk replied to Trump Jr.’s post with, “How much does it cost?” This response echoed a similar query Musk had made years before about buying Twitter, now known as X, which he eventually did purchase for $44 billion.

What she really crying over is losing her $30M, no wait $25M annual salary.
I love it when a far leftist cries!

However, it appears the uber-liberal channel is not up for sale.
Despite the fact that, according to various sources, over a specific week in November 2024, Hallmark Channel outperformed MSNBC in both total day and primetime viewership, Comcast is not selling it off. Comcast has announced plans to spin off its portfolio of cable networks, creating a new entity (“SpinCo”), including MSNBC, CNBC, USA, E!, Syfy, Oxygen, and the Golf Channel, into a new publicly traded company. This move is aimed at allowing these cable networks to operate independently from Comcast’s other assets like NBC, Peacock, and its theme parks.
The restructuring is designed to address the declining traditional TV viewership due to cord-cutting and the shift towards streaming services. By separating these assets, Comcast aims to streamline its operations, focus on growth areas like streaming with Peacock, and possibly position the new cable company for future strategic partnerships or acquisitions without directly selling to any external buyers like Musk or Trump Jr.
But we have to ask whether Comcast will ever renew Rachel Maddow’s contract with a $25M annual salary again.
