Simple rule for portion size

Walking Fit prevention guide gives a new, easier way to determine proper, healthy portion sizes at mealtimes. Use your hand as a measuring tool.

The palm of your hand is about the size of a 3 oz. piece of meat and the fist is comparable to a half a cup, the ideal amount of pasta you should be getting in one sitting. The thumb is roughly one ounce, so remember that a portion of cheese should be no more than one and a half of that. The tip is about the size of a teaspoon, which counts for a serving of oil.
