The Daily Mail is reporting another country has been hit by the Black Death outbreak in Madagascar. Neighboring countries are readying for an epidemic.
As I have been reporting for weeks – this deadly form of pneumonic plague – is just a couple of airplane rides from an airport near you. South Africa, Mauritius, Seychelles, Tanzania, La Réunion, Mozambique, Kenya, Ethiopia and Comoros have all been warned they could be at risk from a possible outbreak as well. Many of these countries are popular tourist destinations, and many are home to established ethnic communities here in the US making travel between the countries by families and businesspeople very commonplace.
As I also reported last week, spread of the disease is being hastened by the tradition of digging up recently past family members and dancing with them. Read more here, here and here.
