China is Breeding Polar Bear Sized Pigs

Bloomberg is reporting farms in Southern China are reacting to an outbreak of African swine flu with attempts to breed massive pigs.

China is a huge market for pork products.

However, thanks to the flu outbreak, wholesale pork prices in China have surged more than 70% this year, while pig inventories plunged 39% in August from a year earlier.

The average pig is usually about 125 kilograms. Recently, farmers have been pushing the size of hog to slaughter to almost 200 kilograms.

These super-sized pigs will tip the scales at nearly 500 kilograms or over 1,100 lbs.

Who knows how these massive genetically modified pigs will turn out?
