This is what happens when you push people too far. They know the police won’t come. They aren’t insured (at least that’s what it sounds like) and they don’t want to lose their heard-earned living by letting street scum steal from them.
Personally, I wish we could rely upon “the common good” which prevailed for the first few centuries of the American experiment. Where decency prevents most people from committing crimes like this and the deterrent of the police makes then rare. But then we became de-civilized by a failure of government, the collapse of moral authorities and the absolute take over by moral relativism – now expressed in the “woke” and “cancel cultures” of our time.
