It’s just cool. So I’m sharing it with you.
Prince Rupert’s Drop is a glass object formed by dripping molten glass into water, creating a tadpole-like structure with a bulbous head and a long, thin tail. It’s renowned for its paradoxical properties: the head is incredibly strong, capable of withstanding hammer blows, while the tail is extremely fragile. If the tail is snipped, the entire structure shatters explosively due to the release of internal stresses. This phenomenon demonstrates principles of material science, particularly stress distribution and the behavior of glass under tension. The drop was named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine, who introduced it to England in the 17th century.
