Same Old Excuses, Zero Real Regret, and Plenty of Self-Preservation.
The Democrat National Committee finally coughed up its long-delayed “postmortem” on the 2024 wipeout this week, and it’s exactly the clown show you expect from a party still refusing to face reality. A 192-page mess of a draft, incomplete, full of disclaimers, and immediately disavowed by their own chairman. Kamala Harris got thrust into the spotlight after Biden’s collapse, ran a joyless, elite-focused campaign, and lost big to President Trump. The report dances around the truth but can’t hide the obvious: Democrats got rejected by the American people for pushing policies that hurt working families while lecturing them nonstop.
What the Report Actually Says – And What It Conveniently Ignores
This thing reads like a half-finished term paper with sticky notes questioning its own conclusions. It admits Harris “wrote off rural America” and didn’t hit Trump hard enough with negative attacks. It complains the Biden White House failed to set her up for success over three and a half years. Democrats lost ground with working-class voters, especially in the heartland and South, because they stopped listening and kept chasing identity politics over kitchen-table issues like jobs, prices, and security.
The report calls for renewed focus on Middle America, rebuilding state parties, and making an affirmative case instead of just fear-mongering about Republicans. It notes billions spent on ads that didn’t move the needle where it counted. Harris’s campaign poured resources into suburbs while rural and manufacturing areas slipped away entirely.
But here’s the real tell: massive gaps. No serious dive into Joe Biden’s obvious decline and how it poisoned everything. Zero mention of the Gaza disaster that alienated key chunks of their base. The report tiptoes around the border chaos, inflation pain, and cultural overreach that drove normal voters into Trump’s column. It’s a document that critiques tactics while protecting the rotten ideology at the core.
Nothing groundbreaking here. These are the same problems analysts spotted in real time during the campaign. The “new” part is the public release after months of internal fighting and pressure from their own side demanding transparency. Chairman Ken Martin released it with a giant apology, basically saying it doesn’t meet standards and disowning chunks of it. That’s Democrat leadership in a nutshell – can’t even own their own autopsy.

Actionable Items? Mostly More of the Same Failed Playbook
The report throws out some suggestions: compete everywhere, not just blue strongholds. Rebuild relationships with working people. Train better candidates. Listen more. Shift from pure negative partisanship to offering voters a real vision.
Sounds reasonable on the surface, but dig deeper and it’s the usual consultant-speak. No call to ditch the open borders obsession, the green new deal fantasies that crush energy costs, or the cultural experiments that turned off parents and men. They want to tweak messaging around the same failed policies instead of admitting the policies themselves repelled the electorate. Actionable for staying irrelevant in flyover country, maybe. Not for winning back the trust they squandered.
Democrat Rep. Jared Moskowitz: “An autopsy is a medical procedure you do over a corpse, and now it sounds like we need a malpractice attorney because we couldn’t even do the autopsy correctly.”

Where the Blame Truly Belongs
Harris owns a big piece. She ran a campaign that felt disconnected – cackling about joy while families struggled with grocery bills and unsecured borders. Her sudden elevation without a real primary created chaos, and she never escaped Biden’s baggage. But the deeper fault lies with the party machine that propped up an unfit Biden for far too long, then foisted Harris on voters as the only option. They bet everything on identity, coastal elitism, and treating Trump supporters like garbage. The American people, including millions who voted Democrat before, said no thanks.
This report confirms what America First voters already knew: Democrats still don’t get it. They lost because they prioritized globalist lectures, endless spending, and cultural radicalism over securing the border, lowering costs, and respecting normal Americans. Blaming rural “oversights” or messaging misses the point – the rejection was a verdict on their entire direction.
Trump won because he delivered results before and promised more. Democrats can write all the 192-page drafts they want. Until they drop the contempt for half the country and return to sanity on economics, security, and values, they’ll keep producing these postmortem excuses instead of victories. The voters have moved on. The question is whether the party ever will.
