Making butter from cream

I found this on Facebook and liked the idea, was I haven’t done it this way I’d be curious to hear all y’all’s thoughts. Butter is expensive – as is cream so this really only works if you get a deal. But I liked the idea of fresh buttermilk and loved the seedling planter.

I found pints of heavy whipping cream for .99 . The sell by date was close.

This wasn’t quite 2 whole pints because I had used a little out of one. However for under $2 I have over a lb. of butter over 4 cups of buttermilk and free seed starting containers. The whole process took roughly around an hour but half of the time was whipping.

For those of you who are new to this process is very simple. You can make butter in a stand mixer, food processor or even with a hand mixer it’s just a little more hands on. You simply mix it until it globs together and starts turning a pale yellow. You will definitely be able to tell when it’s done. Then you need to drain it well and work the extra moisture out I used my CLEAN hands and in small sections just worked it a little like making a ball with Play-Doh now I’ll leave it set to finish drying a bit.

I will use the buttermilk for biscuits and other baking. Also butter freezes very well.
