Here’s how we see it. The passing of Dianne Feinstein, the oldest member of the Senate, the longest-serving female senator and the longest-serving senator from California, who in recent years drifted to the far left to stay relevant in the modern Democrat party grants her party an amazing election opportunity. While we reflect on her death we remember that she was once a moderate (except on 2SA) and was a good mayor of San Francisco. May her memory be a blessing to those who loved her.
The Governor of California now has to appoint an interim Senator. As the Dems know that Kamala is even less popular than Biden they need to get rid of her. How about they appoint her to Feinstein’s seat in the Senate? After all she has been a Senator for California before.
Gavin Newsom is in the running for president and would doubtless love to have Kamala forfeit her spot. And remember that he said in 2021 that he would nominate a black woman to fill Feinstein’s seat.
But wait, there’s more…
…the Veep position would come free. How about Newsom slides in there and assumes the mantle as next in line? Could he pull off a vote from Congress?
The Twenty-fifth Amendment (Amendment XXV) to the United States Constitution deals with presidential succession and disability. It clarifies that the vice president becomes president if the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office through impeachment, and establishes how a vacancy in the office of the vice president can be filled.
And yes, there is a precedent. When Richard Nixon’s vice-president, Spiro Agnew left the post when faced with federal indictments for crimes committed in Maryland, Gerald Ford, a House member from Michigan, was confirmed to the vice-presidency and subsequently assumed the position of president when Nixon resigned.
